Doors
A wise sage counselled me once “How you close the doors in life is, often more important than how you open them”. Today marks the end of a nearly 14 year journey with my current employer Ince (Pty) Ltd. I have not made this decision lightly, but with much thought and insight from those around.
This has been an amazing journey of discovery and learning and I have been blessed to have been part of an amazing management team. This business afforded me many opportunities to grow and develop as a business person, lessons that I will be eternally grateful to have learned.
This decision has probably been three of four years in the making and stems from my own developmental process…..
I have long held a view, and spoken about it before, that the ideal candidate any corporate could employ is someone that is 49% entrepreneur and 51% corporate. This split, in my view anyway, means that your candidate has enough courage to make risky decisions, which often lead to great rewards, but not enough courage to make these with their own resources. Correctly managed the corporate could enjoy great rewards from this individual.
The risk to the business in when the balance shifts and when the individual reaches a point of asking – perhaps I could do this myself. When this happens there is almost nothing that the corporate can do or say that will stop this person from moving on. I have reached this point.
I am ready for a challenge that involves me taking some risks, with hopefully some good rewards as a result. In this process I am hoping to close some doors and open the new ones, all the while endeavouring to retain the friendships and relationships formed over the past 14 years.
My posts will change somewhat as I begin to talk about my journey and I invite you all along for the ride. To Ince (Pty) Ltd, thank you for helping to shape me into the business person I am today, thank you to the colleagues for your support on the journey. To the many other people I have interacted with over my years here thank- you to you too.
Signing off for the last time as the CRM Agency Director as Ince (Pty) Ltd. Who I sign on as next will become clear in the coming days………
