Success and Pain go hand in hand
I have the privilege of working for a business that at the end of this month completes it’s most successful year in terms of it’s trading history. The business is now some 87 years old and owes much of the success to owners that are not afraid to innovate and change. In this time though we are also making some hard decisions as far as cutting overheads.
We will see two areas lose some staff as a result of poor financial performance. This got me thinking about what it takes to be successful. Clearly having the ability to look at situations and removing emotion to ensure that the correct decision is made is one such trait. This is clearly not the only trait, but one that I guess is what makes the difference between good and great.
While losing staff is never a good thing and no boss can ever say that it is easy it is a decision that needs to be taken. We need to take note of the fact that sometimes to be successful is going to require some tough decision making.
So what am I ultimately saying. We all have the opportunity to make something of a situation. We must all note that there are going to be times where we are going to have to make some taxing decisions. These though should be made with an ultimate goal of success in mind. Do not be afraid to make a hard decision now because failing to take decisive action now may lead to ultimate failure in the future.
