South African Pride
Last night we took a drive down Adderley street, in Cape Town, with our kids. It has become a bit of a tradition for us, to see the lights that have been put up. It is quite an event for us as the kids nap in the afternoon, to ensure that they stay awake to see them all.
Each year it becomes a bit more special as the kids identify the individual themes and objects that have been created. This year was obviously the best so far as we had some really good interactions.
Clearly, and for obvious reason, the focus on the City of Cape Town is even more apparent in the displays. I was instantly filled with pride as we looked at the displays. My biggest joy though was not in the seeing, but in how positive we as a family were about Cape Town.
We were really postive about this place, not that we shouldn’t be, but that more importantly this has started to impact our children.
My daughter, in the middle of the drive said “Hey dad, everybody should come and see how beautiful this place is”. I am growing my children to be positive about South Africa, and indeed believe we all should.
So my message to you, at this time, is look for the positive that lies in South Africa. Use the time spent moaning to look for solutions, don’t be caught in the negativity trap!
The world is coming, both in physical presence and indeed via the media, let your body language show them that we are a proud country and that we have a positive spirit.
